Year In Rainbow

Here it is the last day of a rainbow month! Not as theatrical as the first day of this month, but it’s still a change.

I had a lovely brunch with my roommate Sara and her friends, then I rode my bike to the Botanical Gardens in Brooklyn to meet up with my Grandma and Aunt. We found the Rainbow Garden!

Some guy walked in and saw my dress and asked me if I was the keeper of the rainbow garden, he was soo excited and asked if I wanted my picture taken infront of the rainbow garden(of course I did!)

Then I saw a preview for tomorrow!

I bumped into Topher! He was wearing rainbow shoes!!

It was the Chili Pepper Festival at the Brooklyn Botanical gardens, it was a nice surprise, I saw my buddy Liz who works there while we were watching Nelida Silva’s Peru: “A Journey Through Dance.” I was a dance peice about how color and the love of dance really helped her through her journey of immigration. It was very inspiring!

I don’t know these people, but I let them pose to show how big the leaves are!!

Man today started out kinda rough, maybe because it’s almost the end of the rainbow month, maybe it’s because Summer is pretty much over but here is how it starts . . .

So I awake on Ruby’s couch, still in my make up from the night before, it’s 7am. I can’t sleep so I grab my bag of costumes, leave a thank you note, and head out. Mind you I’m also wearing a rainbow jump suit, my make has crept down my face, actually my whole face is swollen. I kinda feel and look like shit! I go around the corner to where my bike is parked and as I’m packing up my bike, this guy comes up to me and starts talking,”You ride your bike to work?”

I mumble,”Yes”

He stares standing way to close for 7am, and because I’m not really making conversation he asks,”are you American?”

I’m pissed at this point, I really wanted an uninterrupted walk-of-shame, not that I’m ashamed, but I do feel like shit! So I say,”Yes I”m American, and I don’t feel like talking so can you leave me alone?”

He stares.

I plead, “Go away, stop staring at me, I need some space!”

He continues to stare at me and I just ride off really pissed. I’m never awake at 7am, and it’s really a beautiful morning! I’m enjoying the sunshine and hoping no one is looking too closely at my mangled face. As I’m reaching the center of the Williamsburg Bridge, I ride past these kids and one of them yells, “She’s ugly.” Ouch!

I make it home shower and sleep till noon, and then I get dressed and go to work. On my way to work, just as I’m turning off of Broome street, some one from the car that was behind me yells, “Bitch!” Ouch number 2!

Anyway, work was great, I got these lovely little cards from Moo I haven’t had a business card in about 4 years, so it was certainly about time! I came home from work chat with my roommate Ethan, take a picture of his rainbow bike hat, he’s really into bike riding!

Then I watched “All that Jazz” great movie (yes I’m a Fosse junkie) but sad, so I cried. I realized I hadn’t taken a picture of myself yet, so I did make up smears and all, hey man at least it’s an honest portrait!

Worked today. Then rode my bike home. Got ready for the slipper room. I got to perform with some of my favorite folks! Miss Astrid, Nasty Canasta, Gigi La Femme, Jezebel Express and DJ Momo Taro. It was a quick and easy night . . .then I walked around the corner to Ruby and Micheal’s house. . .for a party!

Nasty says she’s so affected by the Year in Rainbow that when she’s shopping lately she’ll look at Orange clothes and think,”I can wear that next month!” I love this lady, brilliant,funny, sexy and well her name doesn’t say it, but she’s a sweetheart!

Gigi is also thinking about the year in rainbow . . .she did this awesome act all in blue, hot, hot, hot is this Miss La Femme. She took a picture of a rainbow stool she saw at a photo shoot! This is the picture of her holding the picture up on her cell phone!

Ruby is the cutest thing ever! Always rocking some amazing style in full force!

I bought my plane ticket for London and Stockholm! I’m going to speak and perform at a Feminist Neo-Burlesque conference at the University of London, and then I’m flying to Stockholm to perform with the Hootchy Kootchy Club for the Hootchy Kootchy Horror Picture show!! I’ve never been to Europe so this is all really exciting!!

Anyway today I also went to audition at a very fancy shmancy club that requires the most over the top performances. I did my “make love to a baby act” and the first thing the director said was can you put the baby inside of you? I wasn’t surprised, and in fact I said, “I’d thought of it!” I knew what to expect, but I still can’t believe that it took place at an audition!

After my audition I went to Rapture and sat with Glenn Marla for a while, I love that guy, so colorful. Of course I forgot my camera, but here’s a photo of us in a photo shoot, by Darren Mayhem

And, right as my camera battery died, I got this crappy picture of myself at home . . .orange is just around the corner!

I woke up today and the first person I saw was Maceo! He was dressed up like a pirate, what a sweet, sweet child! He even had a cardboard sward! Wow! He even had the evil mustache, but he my friends is not evil at all!

Work was good, I’m working on a job application, so I did a little research for it!

I just love having my bike back, makes things SO EASY! I rode home after work, showered, packed my bags and headed to the show at Lotus. I did my new rainbow act that I do to Kiki and Herb’s live version of Rainbow Connection/Edelweiss. . .it was for the gays! I think they liked it . ..I was hoping to have a photo of the performance by now, but alas none, but here I am at home . . .just in case.

I like this one because it says, “Look behind me it’s almost the month of orange!”

I know it looks like a couple nights ago, but it was really Tuesday night! Notice the intense rainbow of messiness!

Today I spent a TON of time on the computer, working on a job application, writing a contract for my trip, blogging, sending out a weekly mailer.

I got a phone call from Satan’s Angel, she was here for the Maury show, she won America’s most outrageous performer, so she was in town for a bit to receive her prize. She didn’t have time to visit with everyone, but she did call to say hello from the airport, which was really sweet.

I then went to The Petite Versailles to pic up some flyers from Peter he runs the garden, and it’s beautiful! I had only looked in, and never got to see the whole garden. It’s magical and it’s going to be perfect for the The Orangeacle Oracle on October 13.

Here are some things I saw on the way to the garden.

Saw this beautiful mural at a school on Essex and Stanton.

Then I got my bike fixed, hurray! I’ve felt so “out of it” since I haven’t been riding. I met Molly Crabapple’s roommate, nice guy Richard, he was the one fixing my bike at Spokes and Strings , he is a character and super sweet.

Then I came home to rehearse my new act, ooh, I’m excited to perform it at Lotus tomorrow!

Just a mellow day at work, with a break for ice cream in the middle of it. Yes soft serve twist with rainbow sprinkles. There is also a rainbow that comes in through the glass door at work, when the sun hits it just right it’s beautiful, hard to take a picture of, but beautiful!

I love the 70’s, the music, the clothes, the lifestyle-everything! Today I got a package from Indigo Blue she sent me a rainbow bag, a sweet card and this amazing Jump Suit!

Pictures by Micheal This picture is not the clearest but it does show both the Collective Unconscious and Burlesque sign, I adore that sign, because the Collective Unconscious Theater used to be a Burlesque house called The Harmony!

This one is a little better you can see Raven, and some of these girls who showed up all wearing different color wigs, who gave us weird looks when we walked in the door, but couldn’t stop hanging around after the show!

This night was a visit to the 70’s via Pinchbottom Burlesque. We did P.I.N.C.H Squad:70’s Cop Show Burlesque, I got to stay and watch the rest of the show, it was awesome! I really hope we do it again, just because pubic hair was brought back in FULL FORCE!

Also because I got to be a blond, I really like being blond, I was a blond up until age 11,then the brown jumped in! But here I am blond . . .

Question for of the day, do you think Black is all colors mixed into one, or the absence of color?

So I didn’t see double rainbows but i was double booked today. I left the house at 11am and didn’t return until 2:30am!

I worked 11:30-7:3o at some dinner before I did Pinchbottom Burlesque, and debuted a new act to Bette Midler’s “My knight in Black Leather” with Raven and then I rushed over to the Slipper Room and debuted another new (rainbow) act! It was too much to do in one day, so needless to say I was too preoccupied to take many pictures . . .here’s some . . .
