The final day of rainbow for this month, I even had a dream about wearing yellow, it’s very exciting! Yes I’m a little tired of wearing rainbow, a little tired of being called a clown. Though I do embrace it, I do consider myself what Rose Wood calls a “Beauty Clown”

But I do need a break. I spent a little time with Morty Diamond on Tuesday and I saw him at the gym. I had worn rainbow to the gym(my smock over my work out clothes), but I felt so wrong not wearing rainbow. And then I saw Morty Diamond of “Year in Pink” yes I saw him when I was in public out of rainbow and I felt ashamed! Funny how this project is all mine but I’m still weirded out if I’m not following my rules!

sent me some pictures of Agatha Ruiz De La Prada, such a colorful lady, I can’t believe I haven’t heard of her! When I saw the pictures I thought, that’s how I’ll dress when I’m her age, but then I realized that’s how I dress now!!

Anyway it was a long day at work, but I had fun with my co-workers who found two melted toys . . .yuck!

I worked today and I found out the full details about my boss who was diagnosed with cancer. It’s horrible, they have to give her a hysterectomy, because the tumor has totally attacked her ovaries, uterus and cervix she’s only 30! She’s terrified, and I don’t blame her. We have Aetna health insurance at work, and it’s actually a really bad company. When she called to see if Aetna covered her at the Sloan-Kettering Cancer hospital, Aetna told her yes! And when she got to Sloan-Kettering they told her that Aetna will often screw with their customers and so they don’t work with them! So now she has to pay out of pocket for her surgery and radiation! Just awful! Her parents drained their entire savings to pay for the surgery, I told her I’d be happy to put on a benefit show, because that’s what I know how to do!

So I was super emotional after work but, I went to rehearse with Alyssa at the Y for our show at Starshine Burlesque. On my way I walked by the opening of a new Museum on Bowery, with a big rainbow sign that says “Hell Yes!” if anyone wants to buy if for me, I’ll take it! Maybe Christopher(my landlord) will let me put it in the back yard?

The show was AMAZING! Yes really spectacular, everyone was on fire! I love when a show is like that, and the audience just gives it to you! It was the Schelp Sisters(me and Minnie Tonka), Bloody Belle the B-Nudie Queen, Lola Van Ola, hosted by Miss Saturn and of course Little Brooklyn and Creamy Stevens.

Lola Van Ola from St. Luis performed and Gigi La Femme did this new orange act, hot stuff! Lola Van Ola sang and did acrobatic, really inspiring!!

Candy Caramello came to see the show, she said it was like nothing she’d ever seen before and very funny. She even said, we were recreating Burlesque!

My friend Jessie(an awesome dancer and the new choreographer for Nice Jewish Girls Gone bad) and her boyfriend Randy came to see the show, I think it was their first burlesque show! Here are me and Minnie with Jessie. Randy took the picture.They are such sweet people, I think they will be life long friends, you know when you just have that feeling about someone when you meet them?

Then we all went to Around the Clock to eat, Veselka was closed!

After a long night I woke up a little late, but fortunately my babysitting was at home for Maceo.

Sharon and Christopher are looking for preschools so they went to an open house. Maceo is so full of life and exuberance, when we were getting ready to go to the park he asked me if I had any “Sparkly fings” he meant Sparkly things (he’s three.) I gave him a little red sequin bow.

So have you heard about Rainbow Children, I found this web site and they said rainbow children,

I’m ready for Yellow, even the back yard is yellow! This is my backyard and my neighbors back yard look closely and you can see their rainbow bricks! Feels like the Grass is always yellow on the other side of the fence! Yes I’m impatient!

So today was full to say the least. I worked and went to rehearse with the Cast of Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad I’m performing with Minnie Tonka (the other Half of The Schlep Sisters) December 7, 13, and 21. I get to sing in the last number of the show so I’m pretty excited about that!

Afterwards I went to perform at a Benefit for Cary from the Cock to go to OZ as in Australia.

I saw lots of lovely folks there, some of the Dazzle Dancers, Linda Simpson, Shanimal, Bec and Malcolm (pictured below in Rainbow Splendor!)

I wished I’d taken more pictures, but I was just a little bit pre-occupied with performing, and it had been one of those days where you forget to eat dinner because you are jumping from one ship to the next. And the next ship was Lotus for the last night of The Factory and in the Flesh Burlesque by Starshine Burlesque.
I saw my dear friends Amber Ray, Little Brooklyn, Creamy Stevens, Bambi the Mermaid, and Captain perform the last time for this party. Here they are all pictured backstage with The Fresh Prince of Darkness.

Creamy Stevens and Little Brooklyn of Starshine Burlesque created the Tuesday night burlesque at Lotus and so this was their last night. I love working with these gals and they are the reason I do burlesque because my very first go-go gig for Pink Inc. Little Brooklyn told me to come check out Starshine Burlesque and when I got there I gave Creamy Stevens my card and then I was booked and I never looked back!

Yes, I’m tired of wearing rainbow, so tired, I am just aching for yellow! The trees in my neighborhood have been dropping yellow leaves, my new clothes are yellow, the thread in my sewing machine is yellow.

It’s funny I was chatting with a friend on thanksgiving, she is known for wearing bright colors and lots of sparkles, the last few times that I have seen her she’s been in black. I asked her what brought it on? She said she ,”didn’t want to look like a 12 year old any more.” I have to wonder if I look like I’m coming home from a rave half the time? I was wearing a red dress around the house today, it felt great! Man, I’m just a little antsy to be able to wear whatever I want, I know it’s my own project, but still just a little complaining for now . . .

Well Alyssa and I only finished the g-string and pasties, so we realized that we would have to come back to my house after rehearsals and finish.

We rehearsed with Jessie, she’s the new choreographer for Nice Jewish Girls Gone bad. She’s a doll! So excited about life and also excited about the Year in Rainbow. It’s definitely inspiring when others are also inspired! That is the idea, that people will be inspired by this project.

I went to see my friend Lacy at her other place of employment that sells a regular rainbow of clothing. I got some yellow clothes for next month. Then Alyssa and I went to Beacon’s closet to look for more yellow, a sweater for me and she needed to drop off some clothes.

We then went to eat at Mugs Ale house and proceeded to get buzzed off of two ciders!

Here I am wondering if the rainbow sticker on my phone looks like a gay pride sticker or a piece of year in rainbow pride?

We went home and sewed up the bras! I broke 4 needles on my machine, because I didn’t have the bigger needles to sew sequins on the bras. So we had to hand sew the rest!

Worked again today, but to make the day feel more like a holiday I invited Bryn and Lauren over for Breakfast, I made my all time best French toast, yum. I also was doing laundry before they came over, yes I absolutely had NO rainbow clothes to wear because they were all dirty, so I just wore some sweats and a rainbow scarf to the laundry mat. I felt like I was cheating, but hey it’s my project.

I met Alyssa at whole foods we picked up a pizza for dinner and went to shop for costume stuff.

Then we came home and sewed, sewed, sewed!! We’re performing at Starshine Burlesque on Thursday so we needed to vamp up one of our acts. We made a new blue out fit! These are the pasties!

Worked today, thought it was going to be NUTS, it being “Black Friday” and all, but it turned out to be a mellow day at work, felt like a normal Saturday, but not BLACK FRIDAY!

I wondered why it is called Black Friday, and why the color black is used to describe a big shopping day. Here is what Wikipedia said about Black Friday

“Stress from large crowds:The earliest uses of “Black Friday” refer to the heavy traffic on that day, an implicit comparison to the extremely stressful and chaotic experience of Black Tuesday (the 1929 stock-market crash) or other black days. The earliest known references to “Black Friday” (in this sense) are from two newspaper articles from November 29, 1975, that explicitly refer to the day’s hectic nature and heavy traffic.”

Why does black have such negative connotations? Amy Winehouse says “Back to Black”, the black plague, they say black is bad and white is good?Here’s Raven and me in my act “My knight in Black Leather” taken by Elena Dahl at Pinchbottom Burlesque we are modeling the epitomy of black and white.

I again looked up the color black on Wikepedia and it said,”

“Black is the color of objects that do not reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum.

“Scientifically, a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them. This is sometimes confused with black being called ‘a mixture of all colors’, but that is not the case. In fact, an object emitting or reflecting all colors is perceived as white. Sometimes black is described as an “achromatic color”; in practice, black can be considered a color, e.g., the black cat or black paint.”

So technically black is a rainbow as well, some have asked why I just don’t wear black? Black is a color that makes one invisible, rainbow makes one VERY VISIBLE, so in that sense what good would wearing black be in a social experience? Especially in a city where almost everyone wears black!

I spent most of the day cleaning and cooking(Brussel Sprouts.) It was nice to not have to leave the house, mainly because I have to do laundry, yes it’s been three weeks!

With a clean house it’s nice to have guests over, I had Sean and Gabe over for a pre-feast drink.

We had plans to go to two dinners, one at James and Jessica’s and one at Paige’s. So we went in geographical order. James and Jessica’s Thanksgiving came first. They had a STD themed dinner called “Thanks for Giving it to me!” They set up the table with fake pills and a diseased penis.

James made EVERYTHING! Turkey, brussel sprouts(which are not in vogue), butternut squash, mash potatoes, string beans,stuffing, gravy, and pumpkin pie! I brought some Lambic, pickled stringbeans and pickled beets, cheese and one of my pies. Here’s James and Jessica with the turkey!

Sean, Gabe and I jumped into a cab and went to Paige’s. Paige and I met at her thanksgiving feast 4 years ago! It’s our “friendaversary.” I’ve been to her house almost every Thanksgiving for the past 4 years. It’s always amazing, becuase it’s a potluck and everybody brings the right thing and there is enough food for everyone. This year it was a little insane, there was actually too much food! Two turkey’s and a Traducken!

I love going to Paiges, it’s like a family away from home. When I got there, Aaron Edwards was doing his “hallway shots”

I guess I’d have to say I’m pretty thankful, for a lot of things! For my supportive home life (my roommates kickass!), for my colorful friends, for my community of burlesque gals, for being able to create and be creative and most of all I’m appreciative of color!

Woke up late and lounged for a few minutes with Maceo and Sharon, we talked about Thanksgiving and how it was really a celebration the puritans had after they’d massacred a whole village of natives. She wasn’t sure how to tell Maceo the true story behind some of these holidays, such a cute little man and the whole world is in front of him, not all of it good! He’s got some good parents to guide him in a loving way, so cool to see him grow up, just in the past 11 months he’s developed a huge amount of vocabulary and smarts galore! The whole family is vegetarian and the other day we were all sitting on the couch and Maceo asks what I’m eating and I tell him, “Chicken.” he asks with quiet suspicious curiosity,” Is it soft?”

Work was busy, I guess I expected everyone would be on the road to their sweeties by Wednesday but no, they were shopping up a storm!

Afterwork on my walk, I noticed everyone was in a good mood, it just felt like the holidays, friendly, warm, and shopping(good ol capitalists!)

I went to Dean and Deluca to buy some stuff for pumpkin pie filling, I saw these lovely cans of organic pumpkin mix, they were $5 but I thought organic and I’m using up a gift certificate, so it’s not really my money. After that I went to Whole foods and saw the same brand for $2.40 so it is really cheaper. Ok that was so not interesting, but whatever, I guess a blog by any other name would be a journal, but most people don’t show their journals to the public . . .I digress . . . I made not one, not two but four pumpkin pies! Yum!

ah, you ask, “why is she wearing orange and pink?” Well my friends I was at home and that means I can wear whatever I want . . .it’s comfortable! Also this is what I wore all day and I took it off right when I got home!
