RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 176 “Rainbow art model #1″

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

January 22, 2008

I do enjoy a relaxing day at home getting my shit together, for a long week. I definitely value my days off, I don’t take to many of them, is busy the family curse? I’m not sure, but seems everyone in my family is always busy . ..yeah, so, it wasn’t a REAL day off like yesterday. I did go up town to art model at the Society of illustrators with Pinkie Special after I tackled the pile of fabric and glitter that was my room . . .

My friend Sam called from California to tell me that she was looking at a rainbow, a real one, that’s magic! Man, I haven’t seen a real rainbow in a long time, I can’t remember, but this year I’ll find one!

And I’m trying to give you more than the daily head shot, so begins the “windowsill-to-bed-camera-timer” series!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 175 “Rainbed”

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

January 21, 2008
I stayed in bed all day, I didn’t do anything, didn’t go anywhere, it’s been a long time since that happened . . .felt good. . .real good. So that it’s almost 11pm, and I’m going to ,uh, go to bed, and I have time to write my daily blog at the end of the day, like I want to.

I’m still super jazzed that Green is the color of the heart chakra, and also intrigued as to why green is also the color of envy? Maybe because envy is a strong emotion we feel with our heart?

Anyway deep thoughts from the bed of Darlinda Just Darlinda. . . so I changed out of my pjs back into my “bowie” outfit just so I could take a picture in rainbow for today, and here I am posing with the rainbow hula hoop that Pinkie Special made me for my birthday!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 174 “RainBOWIE”

January 20, 2008

Hurrah, what a day, long and productive! I did sleep in until 1pm, but considering I went to bed at 5am, it was OK! I went to rehearse the Trapeeze Loft with Alyssa for a rehash of our(the Schlep Sisters) second act ever called “Venus”, we’re going to re-launch it at our Valentines day show on Valentines day!

I was very glad to have my camera back! Kalki was staying at Tanya’s and was on her way to the airport, Jenny was there to teach her hula hoop class, so I snapped a shot!
DSCF2715

The loft itself is also very colorful! I found lots of rainbows!

On my way to the train I found a house with a rainbow door right next to a green building, hmm, looks like Brooklyn city planning is up on the year in rainbow project!

The sun was setting when I got home.

And that meant it was time to turn this fabric . . .

I’d say it was record time, yep it took me three hours to finish the suit! And of course all the pictures I have of the outfit are upper body shots!

I did my make-up ran to the train, froze my ear off, yeah I know my hair looked messy, but it was due to the time I put into spraying it with hairspray and I didn’t want to cover it with a hat, no way!

Then I proceeded to take pictures, most of which can be found here, but I’ve included some of my favorites that I took as well as some from The Culture of me!

Deryck Todd is the producer of The Bowie Ball and these are shots from last year and this year, it was the one year anniversary!!

It was talking to La John Joseph about how once you take a photo or video of something it all of a sudden has more value than any other moment. It’s actually not true, I’ve had a lot of valuable moments that I would never photograph or video tape. I did enjoy his act, and I was video taping it for him. He was the Virgin Mary! Here we are having the conversation I just spoke of! We’re also going to bring you a fabulous show in May, we’ll keep it under wraps but below are some hints! Photo of me by Stacie Joy

A wonderfully inspiring day!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 173 “New York vs Rainbow”

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

January 19, 2008

Worked today and came home to eat dinner and get ready for the show, yes New York vs London! Buya! It was a really awesome night, as cold as it was, it wasn’t to unpleasant to journey over to Green Point to a large club seemingly in the middle of nowhere. I sure was nervous, but when I got there, I knew a ton of people, Gabrielle, Nicole, Don, Murray, Dynasty, of course Scotty and the Animal Crackers! Then there were the Londoners, Kalki of Australia now lives in London, and I hadn’t seen her in years!! How wonderful.

I got to chatting with Marisa Carnesky; turns out, she has a magnet of me on her fridge! I didn’t even know there were magnets of me! Turns out she got at the Edinburgh theater fest at Dr. Sketchy’s! Anyway it was nice to chat with her and also inspiring to be around a ton of exciting performance artists.

After we won the “performance off”, we danced, and danced, and danced! I danced with Kalki and she’s tough to keep up with, she’s like a hummingbird! What fun!

We went for falafel at Oasis and who did we bump into, but La John Joseph and Legs Malone having returned from Dizzy at Galapagos Art Space. . .yes I feel blessed to be surrounded by such fabulous, inspiring, and entertaining people!

Well I left my camera at Tanya’s so I didn’t get any pictures, but there were tons of pictures taken. And fortunately for you, I know how to use youtube! So here’s the clip of our performance!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 172 “Scotty the blue Rainbow”

Friday, January 18th, 2008

January 18, 2008

Yep, Scotty the Blue Bunny is back in town and we had rehearsals tonight at the Trapeze Loft! Tomorrow we’re(The Animal Crackers) are performing as Scotty’s backup dancers for Ce’st Duckie’s “New York Vs London” show/party. So we’ve choreographed a dance to Scotty’s song “The Bunny” and tonight Scotty joined us to see what we’d been doing. Here’s what our rehearsal looked like! Photo’s by Scotty.

It was a nice collaboration, it’s wonderful, this collaboration thing! Anyway Tanya who run’s and lives next to the loft invited us to eat with her. We ate and spoke of rainbows, she played Cocorosie’s “Rainbow Warrior” I have to say I cried a little, it’s a good song. She told me about seeing a round rainbow in Hawaii, Scotty and Tanya want to sky dive this year, I just want to see real rainbow. I said lets make the sky diving a performance, seems these days I can’t even live my life regular, yes folks that’s “Art as Life!” Taadah!

Here’s Scotty and Tanya goofing it up!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 171 “She’s a rainbow part 2″

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

January 17, 2008

Went to a lovely Yoga class at the Y with my teacher Anne, she’s probably my favorite yoga teacher. She has a real keen intuition about what her students need, it’s really important! After class I gave her one of my cards and we all talked about color and color chakras.

My gym is right by this museum, I know I’ve posted this before, but I do love a good rainbow sign!
DSCF2704DSCF2703

I looked up the color chakra chart and it turns out that green is the color of the heart! So it’s fitting that February be the month of green!

After work I walked in the sleet or rain or whatever it was, for a rehearsal with Matt Mohr, he’s helping me make a new number to “She’s a rainbow” it’s really great to collaborate and have some great choreography! I rely heavily on my improvistion skills and it’s great, but after working with the Animal Crackers and the Schlep Sisters I really want to have my solo acts more choreographed, not just a beat here a beat there, so this is my first choreographed solo!

And home again I went!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 170 “Rainbow night off”

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

January 16 2007

Pretty mellow day in rainbow land. I worked today and went home after work to relax and sleep, it’s been a long week and it’s only Wednesday so you see I needed the night to rest. I ate dinner while Maceo and Sharon watched a Harry Potter movie.

I’ve been forgetting to take pictures of myself, but I’ll remember when I’m in bed, so I get up and take shots like this, that look like I’ve just murdered someone . . .ah rainbows . . .

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 169 “She’s a rainbow part 1!”

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

January 15, 2008

I art modeled again today for Don Duga, the artist behind “Frosty the Snowman”. Then I went to meet the volunteer co-ordinator from Right Rides and we brainstormed a burlesque benefit for the organization! It’s gonna be a blast!

I walked from Soho to the Lower East Side and on the way I saw these cute puppies with rainbow afros, yes they rock!
DSCF2691DSCF2692

I started on my dream project! Yes the burlesque act of the year to Rolling Stone’s “She’s a Rainbow” and how I started it? Well I did it with the costume. Yes Garo Sparo is going to make a fabulous costume that will look something like this, only more colorful
Rainbow dress

Alyssa came over to the shop, because the Schelp Sisters are also getting a new creation from Garo. It was Alyssa’s birthday so she brought us cupcakes! Yum!

Here she is with Garo!

I then went to Nasty and Jonny’s house to collaborate about the Green with Envy Show and eat yummy Mexican food!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 168 “Big Burlesque Rainbow!”

Monday, January 14th, 2008

January 14, 2008

The day started with the usual weekly update, blog catch-up and some extra email blasts because of my Rainbow show. I art modeled at Pratt, saw Amber Ray dressed up in a clown outfit, modeling in another classroom. I do love art modeling, it’s just nice to know that you are contributing to someone’s artistic expression!

My friend Lynne came over and kept me company while I cleaned my room. I got ready for the show, packed my bags and rehearsed. Jumped in a car, arrived at Galapagos and realized I had forgotten the set lists and my CD with all my music on it. . . .fortunately my roommate Ethan was home and he rode his bike over to Galapagos to bring me the CD and the set list! Yes he saved my ass! The CD that I gave the sound man wasn’t the right CD, so I ended up singing the first song,”Somewhere over the Rainbow”, I should have just sang it anyway, I do like sining that song, and hell I just like singing! The rest of the show went on with out a glitch, except for the cold and moldy backstage! Lukki dubbed Galapagos “Galapagross” I love that!

Here are some photos from The Big Burlesque Rainbow Show that were shot by Kevin L. Muth

There were some fantastic friends at the show, it’s always nice to have good buddies in the audience . . .it was a funny show, the funny girls were out in full effect! Dr Lukki, Bunny Love and Pinkie Special . . . I laughed my ass off, and danced my ass off! Here’s an end of the night shot, by Taro!
