RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 167 “Rainbow on the town!”

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

January 13, 2008

I met my new friend Shelly Watson for Brunch and shopping, again a wonderfully inspiring person! We ate delicious eggs Benedict with a side of what Shelly calls, “Home Latkes” because they were labeled as home fries on the menu but they looked a little more like tiny Latkes!
DSCF2682

Of course after brunch we went shopping at Rainbow, one of my favorite proprietors of “fast food couture” as my co-worker Bryn calls it. I was in the market for green stuff, but also ended up getting a purple sweat suit, which I will need in June! Also some green shoes that Shelly is modeling here!
DSCF2684
A delightful time was had by all! Then I had to rush home to prep for rehearsals with the Animal Crackers and to perform with the Schlep Sisters at Sweet and Nasty. I was taking the F to the J and for some reason the F stopped one stop before my transfer so I decided to walk the 5 blocks to the next station to transfer, and on my way stop by Demask to say hello to Glenn Marla, and who did I see walking out? Weirdee Girl was walking out the door from her “hello” to Glenn, so I told her to wait for me to say hello so we could ride the train together, and of course I got this colorful, blurry shot!
DSCF2685

And while we were loading on the train, who do we see? Broadway Brassy! And she was wearing rainbow shoes so we did this funny photo shoot on the train!
DSCF2688DSCF2686DSCF2687

I then went to rehearse with the Animal Crackers, we worked it out! Got a ton done, Saturday is going to be a BLAST! Yes it’s New York Vs London at Studio B!

It was raining a ton, but fortunately I had my big gay (rainbow) umbrella, that fits at least three people underneath. Pinkie and I walked to the train. I stopped to get a giro at a halal stand by Riffifi and this Egyptian man asked,”You married” I said, “Yes.” with my naked un ringed hands in plain sight, but still he went on to say.” I need sleep with girl.” I said really hungry with the food still in his hand, “You will!” and he said,” I need sleep with girl!” finally I was fed up, and said, “give me my food!” That wasn’t the experience I was desiring along with my Giro! Man some people need to get laid! So Sweet and Nasty was wonderful I picked up a cake for Minnie Tonka because it’s her birthday on Tuesday, we did our bride act and party in my pants, we certainly had fun, and it was a nice contrast to Pookie and Jezebels gore acts!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 166 “Rainbow Friends (part 2)”

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

January 12, 2008

I spaced taking a photo today, but still it was a lovely day. On my way to Brooklyn to have a wonderful dinner I saw my dear friend Allison, she’s also known as Little Brooklyn. Our friendship is definitely inspiring! I was really enjoying our conversation, and Allison said “Where is your rainbow?” because I was wearing my purple coat over my rainbow dress. So I unzipped my coat to show her this
rainbowdress
Then a woman put down the book she was reading and said, “Your dress makes me happy!” I was kind of involved in the conversation with Allison so I said, “Thank you” or something like,” that’s the idea.” Allison got excited and said let me give her one of your cards! So I got one out and gave it to her. It’s nice to have inspiring friends! I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful people. Not everyone has that same support and inspiration. I guess you choose your friends, but still I feel very blessed to have such wonderful experiences with such magical people!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 165 “Rainbow Green Preperation”

Friday, January 11th, 2008

January 11, 2008

Yes today I worked, and I wore the dress that Karin from Stockholm gave me, it was her Grandmothers! I got a lot of complements at work, the color makes people so happy!
DSCF2676

After work I rushed home and put all my green stuff in a suitcase and went to Halston’s house to do a photo shoot, I want to save the good ones as a surprise, but I thought this one was pretty funny, because most of the photos are pretty glamorous!!
Nose picker!
Halston Bruce is an awesome photographer, I highly recommend her for any kind of lovely photo shoot!

It’s been a long week, so I just went home and crashed!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 164 “Rainbow Neighbors!”

January 10, 2008

It was hard to get up this morning, my throat hurt, I canceled my hair cut with Topher because I wasn’t feeling too well and just wanted to go home to sleep after work.

I show up at my ultrasound appointment at 8am,I got as far as changing into a green gown(yep getting ready for February!) and guess what I was suppose to bring my films from my previous ultrasound more than 6 months ago! So they had to reschedule for March, this is taking forever. The cysts are teeny tiny, so it’s not a big deal, but I feel like I’m dragging this thing through the mud, you know?
DSCF2666

Since they couldn’t see me before I went back to work, I decided to go get my films. So I went to DRA and they told me I had to wait 45 minutes, so I went to find breakfast! On the way there I saw Howling Vic, she was on her way to the dentist! Wonderful to see her!

I ate a lovely breakfast burrito at this fantastic cafe on 8th and 17th, yum and they had rainbow cookies! The ladies behind the counter loved my rainbow outfit and were super excited about it so, I gave them a card about Year in Rainbow.
DSCF2667

I got my films dropped them off at St Vincents and went to work! On the way to work I found some rainbows via street adverts!

This is from Radio Head’s new album, In Rainbows I downloaded it months ago, it’s pretty good1!
DSCF2668

This is just colorful watches! Wonderful too!
DSCF2669

Work was good, I was exausted by the time work was over and walked to the train with Sean. When I got off at my stop and was walking home I was approached by a girl 16-19 years old. She runs up to me,
“Excuse me Miss!”
“Hi”
“Why you wearing so much rainbow, you know what it means!?”
“Yeah, I do know what it means, but before rainbows meant gay pride they also meant unity among all races and nationalities. I think everyone should wear rainbow, it doesn’t really mean anything other than a lot of color”
“Yeah, but still. I got to school in Manhattan so I see a lot of crazy things, you wouldn’t see any of the guys around here wearing rainbow!”

I gave her my card, I walked home and she did too, it was a sweet moment! I hope that she finds some inspiration from this blog.

When I got home Maceo was watching a movie and Sharon was knitting, I hung out with them for a while, and accidentally distracted Sharon from her knitting. A lovely end to a long day if you ask me!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 163 “Rainbow On and On and On”

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

January 9, 2008

Yes it was one of those days that started at 7am and ended at 2am, long, long day! I went to a supposed ultrasound appointment, I have some small cysts in my breast and have to get them checked on every six months. Well it turns out the appointment is actually January 10th, ah,lovely. So with my free time I went to the gym, it was lovely and I realized to answer my “how do I wear rainbow to the gym” problem, I just wore my rainbow shorts over my stretchy pants!

After the gym it was work and JR brought her puppy Texas to work(we have an actual policy at work that you can bring your dog to work, cool!) This puppy just melted my heart, here’s a picture and a link to a video of him sleeping, soo cute! I think puppies are kind of in the same category of rainbows, sweet, cute, cuddly(ok so you can’t cuddle with a rainbow, unless it’s me dressed in rainbows.) So my heart just melted at the sight of this dog!
DSCF2659

I came home from work and it was home to curl my hair and go to the Slipper Room, unfortunately there were 4 audience members there, fortunately it was a lovely bunch of performers(actually it always is!) I got to see Ruby Fizz for the first time and she has some beautiful costumes. I also saw Nasty Canasta’s “Flash Gordon” act, hilarious and also her cape was a “flash” back in to the old days of burlesque, beautiful. Also I did all “straight” burlesque acts, and it was a joy, just a joy. Light and and easy and sexy! Fun!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 162 “Rainbow Body Image”

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

January 8, 2008

Yes, today I did the regular laundry one does on one’s day off. After Laundry and my new “She’s a rainbow” abb work out, yes I put on She’s a Rainbow” by the Rolling Stones and do as many different abb moves as I can in about 4 minutes. It’s a nice way to start the day, and it’s helping keep my back strong and preventing more injury! Yes I’m also flossing once or twice a day, feels good, I feel good . . .new year. . ..ah . . .what the passage of time makes us do, and not that the public has read this, I actually have to do it every day, hah, what the blog makes us do!

After all that stuff I did to be good to myself, I went to Lynne Foster’s house and we brainstormed about a project she’s working on about body image and burlesque. Wonderful stuff. I med Lynne through Amber Ray whilst art modeling. I often model for Lynne at the Society of Illusrator’s or for her classes at Pratt Brooklyn. She’s fun to work for!

This conversation made me think about body image and color. Do we wear black when we feel bad about our bodies? Do we wear a colorful dress to be sexy, so some one will notice us? Why is white considered virginal? You know in the rainbow months, I pretty much dress like a clown everyday. I was doing online dating again for a minute last month, I haven’t actually gone on any dates(logistics I think), but I kept thinking, “what are they going to think when this I show up looking like a clown?” That is my insecurity talking, and what would I be doing dating a person who is freaked out by the color of my clothes? I sure do think about what I wear to a first date and I wonder if other people think about not just the outfit, but the color, just the color?

After my meeting with Lynne, I went to bring Pinkie some soup, she has a nasty cold! I’m going to be working with Matt Mohr, he’s going to collaborate with me on choreographing a new act to “She’s a Rainbow” by the Rolling Stones, it’s the act that represents this year, so its going to be polished by a pro! I’m also collaborating with Nasty Canasta for the Green show next month, so, so exciting! I’m really loving collaboration, really loving it!

I went to rehearse and do logistical planning for The Schlep Sisters with Alyssa(aka Minnie Tonka)

Oh and I’m not sure what this monster is . .. but it’s on a rainbow, so I love it!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 161 “Rainbow at Home ALL DAY!”

Monday, January 7th, 2008

January 7, 2008

I was home all day relaxing, cleaning, blogging, organizing, and did I mention relaxing? I have been out almost every night last week and will be out every night this week, it’s just too much! Laundry is done, and I can see my floor. I also have many discs of all my solo songs, so there will be no more searching through my closet for that disk when I am running to a gig!

So since I didn’t leave the house I didn’t really wear rainbow, but I did for the blog, yes I wore a scarf from Nasty!
DSCF2648DSCF2649DSCF2647

Just getting my shit together, thats all, I was suppose to go out, but needed sleep instead, been fighting a cold, just wants to stick around, but I say “no,no,no!” to the cold! And,”Yes,yes, yes!” to the Rainbow!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 160 “Rainbow Art Modeling in Long Island”

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

January 6, 2008

Yep, I art modeled for most of the day today, long day it was! I went to Lynne’s house at 11am and we got to Smithstown around 1pm and I modeled to 7pm! It was a great group of folks, teachers, students and lots and lots of modeling!

Afterwards I went to see Alotta and Jukie at their hotel uptown, we drank Champagne and ate cupcakes and watched the L word. Jenny is my least favorite character, but she did ask her short lived personal assistant to organize the characters in her movie in a rainbow of color, so each character was a color! That was a little close to home, my least favorite character bringing up my most favorite color rainbow!! Anyway I got over it, and we had a great time . . .I subwayed it home and on the way among my many transfers and actually not a lot of waiting I saw this tile installation at 42nd street!

DSCF2643
This is by Toby Buonagurio and here’s what the MTA web site said about him
“Toby Buonagurio conceived the work around three themes emblematic of the energetic vibrancy of midtown Manhattan: performing arts, fashion, and street life - all recognizable to the everyday passerby and to the thousands of tourists who visit the city. The ceramics are installed in illuminated shadowboxes throughout the Times Square subway station complex.”

Again, me, not remembering to pull out my camera when there are other people and wonderful things happening around!

RAINBOW JANUARY: DAY 159 “Rainbow Sick and House Cleaning!”

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

January 5, 2007

I was running a few minutes late to work, I was kind of stressed and feeling like shit (yes the cold was still there), but I saw some lovely folks on the platform Jeffery Marsh and Brad Silk very fantastic fellows, it was nice to see such warm faces first thing in the morning, especially since I was under the weather! Brad was telling me that his cousin or sister or some younger family member in Texas had been learning about the rainbow in school and they told her that she couldn’t use the word purple when speaking about Violet because it wasn’t the scientific term for that color! But they did tell her that the folks involved in the Civil War, just decided to stop the war, no one won or lost . . .ah history . . .ah mythology they can be one in the same!

I left work early because I wasn’t feeling well, Harper came in for me. I got home and needed to clean the house, so I did, it’s spotless now! While I was cleaning I watched the new movie/ musical version of Hairspray, it wasn’t very good(except for Queen Latifah singing “Big,Blonde and Beautiful”I think their marketing materials is what got me to watch the movie in the first place!
hairspray

Took this picture last minute when I was about to doze off and realized I hadn’t taken any pictures, just threw some rainbow fabric over my nightie and had at it!
