Sunday, March 30th, 2008

March 30, 2008

Emily came over for brunch today, just lovely catching up and chatting with her and eating good food. Then Sean came over to learn how to make pasties in exchange for some burlesque lessons. He’s really good! We crafted all afternoon, and then I went to rehearsals with the Animal Crackers! Here’s Sean, Me and Emily and a pile of colorful craft items!

RAINBOW MARCH: Day 244 “Rainbow Sketchy’s

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

March 29, 2008
The day started with this wonderful cheese that I used to eat in Mexico, but found it at my local grocery(Great post about the store at the Bed-Stuy Banana Blog)
Well as you can see this cheese is even more appealing with the rainbow on it! It’s this wonderful string cheese that is in a huge ball, yum!

I rode my bike to the tiny bar Nurse Betty for an interview with Michael Foltz and then rode back and got dolled up for Dr Sketchy’s which I haven’t done since since the summer of 2006. What fun!
Here I am in 2006 with Molly Crabapple, there were TONS of pics shot at Dr Skechy’s, I haven’t received any yet, but when I do I’ll update the site!
Me n Molly!

Then Nadege aka Miss Purple of Kisses Cause Trouble met me at Lucky Cat for some great conversations about burlesque and performance art, she again took some pictures, but I don’t have them. It’s wonderful to make new friends, especially international ones! You can see their short video on you tube by going to this link.

Anyway we went to this weird outback steak house type-Bavarian-beer-hall with waitresses in bad Bavarian costumes. Funny what’s popping up in Williamsburg. For the most part it was fun, but I think we were the only people wearing any color!

Here I am at home! Much happier and inspired than I actually look!

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 243 “Longest rainbow day EVER!”

Friday, March 28th, 2008

March 28, 2008

A long, Long, LONG day! I left the house at 8am(after having gone to sleep at 4am) we had a staff meeting, I worked all day and then stayed later to work on reviews! But I took a 45 minute break to go lipstick shopping with Mimi, Rebecca and Zach. It was actually refreshing, and colorful! I didn’t get home until 9pm!

I went home and talked to my dear friend from Mendocino, here I am talking on the phone. These photos feel blurry like my day!

Then I got these lovely emails from Allison via her co-workers, they sent them to her when she told them about my project!
This one is my favorite and you can see more cute pictures at their flickr page! Now you know what kind of cake I want for my birthday!

And this hot dress is pretty cool too!

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 242 “Rainbow Cracker”

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

March 27, 2008

Today was a bit stressful on all levels of my life. It started with me frantically trying to get all my costumes together at 10 in the morning for a 10pm show, ack! Work was nuts, it’s review time so we’re all getting our reviews together! After work I hopped in a cab to the Slipper Room for Sex Pot Crack Pot the Animal Crackers new show!! What a BLAST!! It’s funny because the Animal Crackers are like the rainbow, we are just so colorful, and it’s been a great collaboration which is one of the driving forces of The Year in Rainbow. This was our first full length show(in preparation for April 11 at The Palace of Wonders in DC,and it really melded together!)

Here are some shots from our rehearsal(Amy Animal, Pinkie Special, and Miss Saturn)

Then I RAN to The Delancey for Unisex Salon, in my blue costume, it didn’t seem to make sense to change since I was doing the act again at Unisex, but when I got to the party I realized that I broke my rules, I didn’t wear rainbow out side, eek! I kind of felt naked! Anyway here are some fun shots from my Sun Burnt performance.

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 241 “Rainbow Beautiful Day”

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

March 26, 2008

So much to do so little time, I think thats the way spring is! It was a beautiful morning. On my way to work I found an Urban Rainbow from the train platform.
DSCF3275

Then just as i was about to turn the corner to work, I saw these women putting up these cool bee hive public art/graffiti images! I asked if I could take their picture, but in my rush forgot to write down their names. Interestingly enough they were at the Society of Illustrators last night, and recognized me as one of the models. Small town, this New York.

I worked an extra long day, stayed a while to train some new SE’s. Then I went home to prepare for the Animal Crackers show on Thursday. Took this picture and went to bed(stayed out too late last night.)

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 240 “Rainbow Rodeo”

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

March 25, 2008
I did a bunch of errands and computer work, then LOADS of laundry, it was two trips to the laundry mat! Took me three hours! After that I went to the west village to have tea with Lazlo Pearlman he’s a trans man doing amazing performance art who I met at the Feminist Neo-Burlesque Symposium in London. He’s in DC this weekend, check him out at the Palace of Wonders!

After tea with Lazlo I went to art model with Amber Ray at the Society of Illustrators. After that I went to the Rodeo Bar for good food and refreshing burlesque with Wanted! Wild Bandits of Burlesque with Bradford Scobie, Chris McDaniel, Dirty Martini, Julie Atlas Muz, and Dr Lukki for some hilarious burlesque. It was refreshing, it was a new venue, a new audience, and lovely springtime energy!

Here’s Pinkie Special and I in the audience.

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 239 “Rainbow Blue Shoot”

Monday, March 24th, 2008

March 24, 2008

Worked on my Monthly Mailer and updating this here blog. Then I went to Shelly’s house to do hair and make-up for our Blue, Bluer, Bluest photo shoot! We went to Clinton’s studio Bitfire for the shoot
Bluest_03_00025 by ClintonBluest_02_00044 by Clinton

That took most of the day, then I went home, exhausted and took one more picture of myself! These pants always get such attention, so bright, so intense, so noticeable. Shelly and I were walking to the shoot and this lady says “Ustedes son payasos?” I said, “No” but really we are glamor clowns. I am a clown, no apologies.

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 238 “Rainbow Easter TV”

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

March 23, 2008

Ah, a day off (sort of) I spent the day in bed watching TV, yeah, it felt good, REAL GOOD! Around 5:45 I rode my bike to the Trapeze Loft for rehearsals with the Animal Crackers, which is right next door to Tanya’s house. She also happens to be a fan of the rainbows, almost as much as me! So shes unpacking her car, and what does she have in her hand? This wonderful rainbow feather cape!
T-Bird and her feathers!

We had a wonderful rehearsal, I just love the Animal Crackers! What a wonderful group of people!

So I went to Paige’s for Easter dinner, and it wasn’t what I expected, it was really more of a party than her usual intimate dinners. That was wonderful, but it was just a little too crowded for my personal taste. Anyway I had a lovely time hiding in the corner with Mark, Dean, Sean, Aaron, and Kevin. Kevin took this Fantastic photo of Machine Dazzle who was dressed for the Easter Bonnet parade(earlier he had this huge cube on his head with little bunny rabbits peeking out of it!)
Machine and His Eliot Spitzer Necklace by Kevin L Muth

I was a little overwhelmed, so I went home to get some shuteye, and I walked Lucien to the train, and he took this fantastic picture of me on my bike! Lucien has an exhibit on Chelsea right now, I suggest you go and see it!

RAINBOW MARCH: DAY 237 “My year in Rainbow”

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

March 22, 2008

So the predominant inspiration for the year in rainbow project was Morty Diamond. I was joking with him one day at work, I said “Hey Morty, I should do a Year in Rainbow, and wear rainbow every day!” He looked at me seriously and said, “Yes you should.” And so I did. Well Morty is off to California to get his Masters degree and write “the great American Tranny Novel” as he calls it! So he threw himself a little going away party along with messy performance art and a little dance from me!

We started by watching this fantastic short film that was Glenn Marla and Morty Diamond waxing poetic about being trans gender and what that meant to them. It was funny, and deep, and loving, and fantastic! Then we went on to performing. I started with a new number that I’ve been working on for a while to Astrud Gilberto singing “Look to the Rainbow” I start out in this fantastic white cape and reveal my rainbow fans and then reveal that I’m”sky clad” and have the colors of the chakra on the perspective body parts( as inspiration from Morty Diamond’s part in Annie Sprinkle’s Love Art Lab where they painted the color chakras on his body!) Jessie took this picture(she actually reads my blog!)

Then Morty did a lovely performance . . .here’s Heather and Taryn decorating him

I came home, two drinks sure did me in, I decided to remove my stitches from my foot. Not a mistake, they were bugging me! And then I did a little photo shoot!
