BLUE APRIL: DAY 276 “Last day of Blue! Blue Just Blue”

April 30, 2008

So I’ve come to the conclusion that blue is a pedestrian color, comfortable, acceptable, regular, everywhere. I also can wear jeans and a t-shirt and not look any different from some one who is just living their life in jeans and a t-shirt. So yesterday I wore this . . .

For breakfast I ate oatmeal with blueberries.

And at work i sold these.

So you see, blue surrounds us, not with the vivacity of red(you see I didn’t get any “lady in blue” comments, none at all), because red surround us too, but it’s so much more visible, blue is so mellow, and acceptable, Blue Just Blue.

BLUE APRIL: DAY 275 “Blue day off!(Finally)”

April 29, 2008

Today was a REAL day off(ok I did a little email, and some phone calls!) Fancy and I booked a massage with my friend Emily at her lovely studio, Seeing Through Hands Yoga and Massage Studio, Emily is amazing, she really does “see through her hands”, it’s almost as if you don’t have to tell her where you sore spots are! If you ever need a massage, I HIGHLY recommend her! While Fancy got her massage, I went upstairs to visit my friend Hannah, who is moving Harlem, it was nice having two friends in one building! Then we went for some lovely vegetarian food , grocery shopping and a tiny nap. And back to the city for delicious Sushi and the Buffon Glass Menaegerie, though Fancy’s jet lag hit the moment we got to the theater, but it was OK because Pinkie showed up just in time to take her ticket! What a great show, the ticket was even blue! I reserved it under Darlinda just Darlinda and the guy in the ticket booth asked what my last name was and I said, “Just Darlinda”, he didn’t get it, looked again and found it! I think I’ll keep this name, it’s still funny to me . . . DSCF3416

Here I am at home in a blue coat I’ve forgotten to wear!

Tomorrow is the last day of blue, how time flies!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 274 “Blue guests!Blue Barc!”

April 28, 2008
The first day I have spent at home in a while, it was relaxing, and I did wear all blue(ok just blue jeans and a blue shirt, but still blue.) This month went by so fast, I was trying to remember the last day I had off(no rehearsals, nothing, nada) it’s been a LONG time. So today I cleaned my room and prepared for my house guest Veronica aka Fancy Chance! I’m super excited to have her, she’s a lovely gal and a ball of fun! She’s also got a wonderful blog, and incidentally she’s wearing blue in the front page! www.fancychance.com She played a wonderful hostess when I went to London in October. More info about the October trip here. Here she is in October in front of her blue door, we were coming home after quite the night on the town! (She gave me permission to post this picture , gotta love her the Burlesque Terrorist!)

DSCF1914

When she arrived, we hung around the house, mellow, it rained all day, very typical for April, it just had to wait for the last days of April to rain. This month has gone by so fast, I feel as if I didn’t really get a feel for the color as far as wearing the color, maybe it was the jeans, as much as I love wearing them, its typical for the “American Woman” to wear a blue shirt with blue jeans, not at all strange, not at all out of the ordinary, the only comments I ever got were when I wore my blue jump suit and that’s only because no one (except my friends) wear polyester jumpsuits anymore!

We ate food and got ready for World Famous *BOB*’s benefit for the BARC! Animal Shelter What an amazing show! The line up was fantastic! Little Brooklyn, Tigger!, Bunny Love, Dirty Martini, Bambi the Mermaid(who did an act with her dog Willow, that made me cry tears of joy, you see Bambi has a merdog, such a cute one at that.)Fancy Chance of course, Kit Kat, Creamy Stevens, Erin Markey, and the Animal Crackers. Such a great show and of course it takes an out of towner to realize how lucky I am to have such an amazing group of performers surrounding me at every turn. Here is Pinkie Special, Dirty Martini, Fancy Chance and me all in Blue!

Pinkie, Dirty, Fancy and Darlinda all in Blue!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 273 “The Big Blue Day!”

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

April 27, 2008

The big day was finally here! I spent the morning singing and doing laundry and the afternoon sewing and packing for the show! Man was I nervous about this show, so nervous I got heart burn, felt it in my throat!

I rode over to Union Pool, to find Ken and Tangerine in their blue finery, we got off to a late start with the L train all jammed up. Once we got started
the show was everything I wanted it to be, all voices, all blue, lively and exciting. Sexy and funny. And the songs all worked so well together. This was my first time working with Shelly Watson, and I loved it! She’s inspiring, professional, and a doll to work with. Here she is with her husband Clinton and their marital aide that they found in the street on the way over to the show!

There will be more photo’s to come and video!

I learned an important lesson today, don’t double book a show when you are producing, yeah I was scheduled to perform at Sweet and Nasty, and we got off to such a late start , 8:30, and the show went longer than I expected, 10:15, I just couldn’t do it. Gigi La Femme saved the day, she went to the show in my place, though I may have made that decision too quickly as Nasty actually had a theme and it might have been like sending a red act to my blue show,I hope I didn’t screw it up royally. I was looking forward to doing my version of a glamor act that involves yarn, I thought Nasty would appreciate the yarn(click here to see her fantastic blue yarn creation!)

I also got this photo back from Sonja Sheild that was taken at Victoria on April 12, here I am with World Famous *BOB* and my hair looks blue!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 272 “More Blue preperation”

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

April 26, 2008

Today started with lots of singing, some blue nail painting, some hair doing, then a trip to rehearse with the Animal Crackers and our newest temporary addition Kate Valentine! She really picked up the moves fast, and is a joy to work with!! I then rode over to Shelly’s for some more rehearsals for Blue, Bluer, Bluest and I went to Tigger’s for a little visit and to get the “Blue Note” CD his color compallation that he has made for me every color month in the year in rainbow, brilliant I tell you!

I rode my bike home to see that the big hipster building in Williamsburg had it’s blue lights on, I believe that they change, or else I never noticed it was blue.

April 24, 2008

More bike riding today on my blue bike. I’m feeling a little better, but really tired today? I cheered myself up by going to dinner at Habana Outpost with a friend. It was one of the first warm nights, so there was a line out the door! The food was delicious, mmm!

I rode home exhausted! The sky was a certain kind of blue, you know that dark blue, and you could see the stars!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 269 “Blue Dress on!”

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

April 23, 2008

Well I thought today was earth day, but it looks like it was yesterday! Anyway isn’t it the idea that EVERY DAY is Earth Day? Well it is in my book, riding my bike through traffic, coughing on fumes, blech! Well yeah, I do live in New York City and I haven’t been in Nature since, ack, since September! I know I wrote about this before, but I do miss my home town of Mendocino, dancing in the redwoods and swimming in the river . . .ah, yes!

So here I am before work, my eyes a little puffy and my throat a little sore from the pollution, but still I wear a pretty dress to make me feel better! I always feel better if I dress up nicely, even if I’m feeling like a ball of pollution!
DSCF3402

After work, was more rehearsals for Blue, Bluer, Bluest, ok, now did I mention I’d really LOVE it if you came to the show?? We’ve been working really hard, and it’s going to be WONDERFUL!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 268 “BLUE WATER BALLOONS!”

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

April 22, 2008

One of those REALLY long days! I started out at 8:30am took the train to my bike at Delancey and Ludlow and rode the bike up to 63rd and Lex. I art modeled for the Society of Illustrators and their kids program, was dressed as Super Dance and I think that they enjoyed it! The fellow who was the guest teacher is they guy that does the illustrations for our currency, he does mainly coins! Pretty cool eh?

As I was walking out of the Society of Illustrators I found these posters for Burlesque shows that they had in the 1960’s makes me wonder if I know any of the Burly gals that performed in these shows, and what they were like and where they were in the building!?
DSCF3398DSCF3399

So I met up with Shelly after modeling and we walked her dogs and went down town ate some food and rode over the bridge to my house. I was slowed down by a group of teenage boys, trying to hitch a ride on my bike as they were roller blading! It’s spring break so all the kids are out and about! Rehearsed for Blue, Bluer, Bluest for like 45 minutes, and rode back up town! I met up with my cousin, and on the ride over I saw a ton of blue construction materials, why is that the color of construction? I had dinner at a really bad kosher for Passover restaurant, the service was aweful, the food wasn’t good, and it was EXPENSIVE, blech, anyway I enjoyed spending time with my family, my three cousins and my grandma!

On my way home I stopped by Trader Joes and did some grocery shopping which included dried blueberries and blueberry yogurt, yum! This was the THIRD time I rode over the bridge and this time I had groceries in my baskets! Jeesh I was TIRED! So as I’m riding up the street to my house(it’s of course up hill the last quarter mile) these kids start throwing water balloons from at least 10 floors above, and of course they were blue balloons! Here I am exhausted, but I missed the balloon attack!

BLUE APRIL: DAY 267 “Blue Monday”

Monday, April 21st, 2008

April 21, 2008

So the month is almost over and I haven’t felt much but a relaxing feeling from the color blue, could just be that it’s spring and I’ve been riding my bike? Today was a day like any other day, I worked and then went to drop off some thing at Garos’ studio. I was so tired from the weekend that I parked my bike by the train and took the subway home!
