Saturday, May 31st, 2008

May 31, 2008

Last day of rainbow for the month of May and I spent most of the day in bed watching TV, I was exhausted and needed a honest to good rest! I did ride over to La John Joseph’s for a rehearsal for the Cockettes Benefit on Monday, Erin Markey was there and we had a blast, we are the Future Legendary Children Dancers(add Glenn Marla and Max Steele), and there is nothing but fun to be expected of the collaboration! John Joseph lent me a fabulous purple hat and he wore some awesome purple kicks!

I ate some Mexican food and rode home to get back into bed! Here I am, ready for bed and ready for purple!

RAINBOW MAY: DAY 307 “Long Rainbow Day, long, and I mean long!”

May 30, 2008

I went to work at the new Babeland Brooklyn store today early 9am, and had a lovely lunch with my co-workers, went back was really dirty from the dust(still in construction!) Then they had to refinish the floors so I rode over the Manhatten Bridge to help out at the store in Soho. Then I rode back to Brooklyn for a lovely rehearsal with Minnie Tonka for Blue Suede Jews. Then I rode home, and on my way I saw Lady Coco Lareau walk through the cross walk right by my house and she yelled “Darlinda” so I turned around and it was her! I love having awesome neighbors!

When I was arriving at my house, a group of teenage girls were sitting at the stoop of the apartment next door.

They said,”nice rainbows, are you gay?”

I said,”Does that matter? I wish everyone could wear rainbow and it wouldn’t mean anything.”

They said,”Yes.”

So I told them about my sexual preferences and they said,”oh you’re bisexual!”

I said,”I don’t like labels, but I guess that’s what you would call me!” One of the gals gave me a hi-five! I gave them a flier they didn’t seem interested, to hear about my project they just kept giggling about something else! I love my neighborhood, more and more!

Then I went to the Slipper Room to perform with Legs Malone(pictured), Clams Casino, Pinkie Special, Mel Frye and Jezebel Express. I was exhausted when I got there, ready for a nap, but the dancing and the company I kept, was definitely energizing!

RAINBOW MAY: DAY 306 “Rainbow Crackers and peeking purple!”

May 29, 2008

Mercury is in retrograde FOR SURE! Nothing worked today at work, I wasn’t able to get any work done that was on my list, ah technology how much we depend on it, and how much it can really be a bummer, especially when it doesn’t work! I came home after work to get ready for the show (Starshine Burlesque.) Had some dinner and rode over the bridge to Lucky Chengs.

Everyone is really excited about purple! Pookie Patootie wore a purple go-go outfit! It’s exciting, I do love purple, and very soon I get to spend next month in purple!

I really enjoy working with the Animal Crackers, it was a blast performing at Starshine with them, what fun! We even had a dance party at the end, here are the crackers crazy backstage!

RAINBOW MAY:DAY 305 “Hello Rainbow Bag”

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

May 28, 2008

6:30am I get a phone call that my bag is two minutes away, ah, nothing like waking up at 6 in the morning two mornings in a row. I had a long day ahead of me, so it wasn’t ideal to wake up so early, but at least I got my bag back. I went to work and was exhausted. I rode over the bridge to Jenny’s house for a lovely dinner and a short rehearsal for tomorrow. I didn’t get any pictures of myself, too tired! Though I did get these colorful pictures of my lovely friends!

Here’s Aimee Animal eating yellow pineapple, wearing yellow and sitting in front of a yellow wall.

I had to say goodbye to my wonderful hosts Veronica and Heather very early this morning!
DSCF3614
Sad, sad, the flight was uneventful, mostly sleep and the reading of Bust magazine, which has erotica involving biking and the Williamsburg bridge(hot!) and an interview with Diablo Cody who also rocks! Then I went to retrieve my luggage and lo and behold it wasn’t there! So I fretted and waited, and wondered if it would come . . .being sleep deprived and without your costumes is detrimental to your health, jeesh I was worried!

I got my bike fixed! Hurray! Came home and started dying my clothes purple, I’ve had a bottle of purple dye for a year and finally I am doing something with it!!

RAINBOW MAY:DAY 303 “Rainbow Speakeasy Brunch”

Monday, May 26th, 2008

May 26, 2008
Today was fantastic! We woke up early for the Mondo Homo Speakeasy Brunch, had some strong coffee, did our make-up and jumped in the car to Ria’s Bluebird(fantastic breakfast place, next time you are in Atlanta, go!) The place was set up in no time, a cool tent in the front parking lot, in addition to delicious food in the back.

I was nervous, it’s hard going on last in a show, because I get all that time to think and worry about my performance and it can sometimes be hard to focus on the other performers. Not to mention I had drank too much coffee, way too much!

Though my nerves were calmed when K.E.V.I.N. went on with Ms. Stewart and they danced and it made me very happy. Heywood Wakefield hosted and was ridiculous!
Here I am with Veronica and K.E.V.I.N.

Vagina Jenkins, yeah, she rocked my world! She did a tribute to Hony Harlo that was hot, hot, hot! So hot we had to put her in the fridge!

Kiki and Ria were the organizers, Ria’s Bluebird was where the Mondo Homo Speakeasy Brunch was, the food was AMAZING!

Veronica told me a story about her experience with color, she’s part Puerto Rican and her aunt and mother used to wear muted colors, because there is a fear of wearing colors that are too bright and not matching. When she was 8 years old she put together an awesome out fit with a blue shirt, blue shorts and blue striped socks. She went out to join her Mom and Aunt and her aunt said, “I’m not going out with you like that, you’re looking real ‘rican.” So Veronica didn’t wear color much after that! Can you imagine! She certainly wears color now!
Here’s Veronica, Clover and Me going to the grocery store after the show, before we went swimming and ate delicious food at Melissa’s house!

RAINBOW MAY: DAY 302 “Day Gay Rainbow”

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

May 25, 2008

I spent a lovely morning eating breakfast with Veronica and Heather, Aliza woke up and we went to see Veronica at work where I found a runaway bagel, much like the one I found in Bushwik last month! Veronica didn’t even notice the Bagel!
DSCF3585DSCF3588DSCF3586
Then headed to the big gay picnic at the park for Mondo Homo, here are some shots. You know it was a gay party and I only saw like three people wearing rainbows. Are the Queers afraid of rainbow?

Here is Gina DJ ing some super tunes!

DSCF3590
I did some Queer Yoga(just like regular yoga.) And learned how to hoist myself up on the silks! Heather took these shots with my camera!
DSCF3593DSCF3591DSCF3592

Then it was just a lot of hanging around watching the gayest Madea ever, meeting New Yorkers that lived down the street from me!
Diana Cage, and Jess being a few of them! And some of the Dead Betties! Here is Diana and Aliza getting a free show!
DSCF3600

The sun was about to go down and I realized I had forgotten my leopard g-string for my act tomorrow, and Diana and Jess were going to target so I jumped in the car, but on the way Diana said,”If you can’t find one you can borrow mine, I’m wearing it right now!” Such a lovely moment, a good story to tell the kids, oh yeah that was the summer i borrowed Diana Cage’s g-string! I was visualizing that funny moment of her passing them to me! Ah but it never happened, I found a cute pair at the ross and all was well! Here we are back at the park fresh from our consumerist stop.

May 24, 2008

I woke up, got on the train, got on a train, and arrived in Atlanta 5 hours later. Veronica picked me up and made a lovely sign.

We went to the house, yes a real house in the lovely green south, ah it was so relaxing!
DSCF3578DSCF3579

We went to many thrift stores and I picked up a purple dress for Friday night at the Exotic World Pageant We went to a thirft store called in “Step out for Christ” which was in a church, and I found a book called “Kicking the Habit:A Lesbian Nun Story.” We went to eat at a place called “Eats” and on our way there I saw a man shot or stabbed in front of the police station, a bit disturbing and I couldn’t help but look, this poor man was wearing a white shirt and you could just see the red blood spot, ah, yes disturbing for sure. And then we went eat, funny being a human.

I was pooped and there were events to go to for Mondo Homo(the reason I am here in Atlanta.)

I tried quail eggs for the first time, uh, not so good, not so bad, but I thing bbqs quail eggs are definitely not my favorite! We talked about Exotic World, I am SO excited to go, I found out not only am I going to be in the Dr Sketchy’s, I will also perform at the Pool Party on Sunday!!!

Clams gave me this really cool rainbow book! I made a little video of Clams with the rainbow book!

Then we went to see Bradford Scobie’s “Wake up America” at Joe’s Pub so funny! Then I came home to fold my laundry and pack(for Atlanta), and I talked to Satan’s Angel for about an hour and a half, I love her! So excited to see her at Exotic World!

RAINBOW MAY: DAY 299 “A touched rainbow”

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

May 22, 2008

I worked a long day today, which included my receiving shift and teaching a private workshop for babeland. The workshop was wonderful, or I should say it was for a wonderful group of women. We did the workshop and it wasn’t quite over and one of the ladies had to leave so they asked if I could cut the workshop down, I had no problem because it was their workshop and their party. They invited me to stay and listen to one of the ladies read a really lovely poem about the bachelorette, it was so touching I cried, it was just so great that they shared that with me. Most bachelorette parties are more “party” oriented while this was more connected and was heavy on the spirituality of friendship and community(also DELICIOUS food, they served me an amazing torte of sorts with creme fresh, yum!) I was elated and came home, what a nice end to a long day!
