RAINBOW JULY: DAY 366 “LAST DAY OF THE YEAR IN RAINBOW!”

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

July 31, 2008
Today is the last day of the Year in Rainbow, what does this mean for me? I will continue to live my life and be surrounded by color and love. That’s what I seek, a life full of color. It will be freeing to wear whatever I want to, it will be lovely to not record myself every day, to just enjoy life with out documentation, and I feel a sense of completion having done this project. I invite you to join me on August 23 for a celebration of the Year in Rainbow Finale!

Today is my birthday, the 28th one. I get to sleep in, and there are birthday texts from lots of lovely friends, and phone calls from family. Lindsay came to meet us, and she and Allison decided to wear rainbow in celebration of the last day.

We’re seeing rainbows all over Seattle!

Allison and I helped Lindsay move, her new place is lovely with Apple and Fig trees galore! Here we are enjoying the fruit of the land!

We climbed the fig tree

Then we played with a Dandelion, when I was a small child I had Menke’s Kinky Hair Sydrome, and my hair looked like a dandelion. I’ve always had a connection with Dandelions for that reason. My mother told me that I had this disease but it sounded fake, but when I was visiting last week she told me about it and Allison looked it up and it turns out it’s fatal in males but not in females(here’s me at 28 alive.) Here’s my grandma, mom and me at age 4 or 5.

And here I am with a dandelion

Then we went to Agua Verde for delicious Mexican food, and wonderful kayaking
DSC01249DSC01247DSC01246

Then the day got a little funny, I thought I had lost the keys to both Lindsay’s car and Rachel’s house when in fact Lindsay had the keys. There was a good 45 minutes of freak out, and we called our gig to tell them that we were probably going to be running late, and they thought that we were booked next week. So it was a bit of an ordeal! Fortunately Jenny came to our rescue and picked us up in her colorful car! Rainbow sticker and all!

And the day ended with the act that I do to “Look to the Rainbow” by Astrud Gilberto. It’s been a wonderful year! I’m sad that it is over, but happy to announce the Year in Rainbow Finale for a living breathing show that will bring the best of this blog to LIFE! It’s 10pm at the Zipper Factory on Saturday August 23rd, 2008!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 365 “Rainbow leap year!”

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

July 30, 2008

Ah, this year is almost over, tomorrow is the last day, it feels almost anticlimactic. This year brought so much to the table, it brought community, color awareness, abundance, yes it was full of abundance, how fortunate am I!

Today we were toasting to the year with all the gals on the trip at Rachel’s house and Mama Lou asked me what I’ve gotten out of the whole year in rainbow, I feel as if these last pages should sum it up. Color makes people happy, energized, enthusiastic. I’ve collaborated with most of the people I’ve wanted to collaborate with. People around me are thinking about color, complete strangers are recognizing color just by looking at me.I’m dancing, I’m doing projects I never thought I’d do! I wrote so many blog pages, and there is a big show to feature the whole year, though minutes can’t capture or sum up my 27th year, yes tomorrow I turn 28 and it’s the last day in the year in rainbow. Man how does one sum up a year, to quote not my favorite of musical Rent,” how do you measure a year?” I guess it’s difficult, how do you measure a rainbow, they are abundant and large, and untouchable and everywhere!

I went to Huck’s briss, he’s my new second cousin 8 days old!. That is intense! Though the ceremony was beautiful, I do appreciate Judiasm because of it’s acknowledgments of coming of age, Briss’s, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and I even appreciate the yortsite ceremonies. I think that’s why the year in rainbow has been wonderful for me, it’s almost been a ceremony, a routine that is daily that means something to me. Color is spiritual for me.

Allison took pictures while I was hanging out with my Aunt and Uncle.

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 364 “Rainbow in Seattle”

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

July 29, 2008

Our day started way early, 5am! Allison and I got on the plane  at 7am to some rude flight attendants who said things like “put on your air mask, but don’t put it on the people who are talking during this demonstration!”  That melted away when we arrived in Seattle to the smiling face of Mama Lou and this rainbow display!

Mama took us to breakfast at this delicious crumpet place, yum!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 362 “RAINBOW Final show!”

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

July 27, 2008

It was our last day in Mendocino, so I had to show Scotty and Allison the beauty that is Mendocino, what a better way than to follow the sounds of the sea lions and head to the ocean! Gotta love the camera timer and the ocean!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 361 “Back in Caspar again Rainbow!”

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

July 26, 2008

It’s our second day in Mendocino and the only thing I can think of doing is getting in the river. Finding sunshine on the Mendocino coast in the middle of Summer is difficult, so we have to go 20 minutes inland to find some warm sunshine and a simming hole called “Iron Bridge” It’s lovely! I met my childhood friend Stella their and was delighted to yell “STELLA!” as loud as I could when I arrived at the Beach, yeah. Well not only did I see Stella(it was planned) I saw Sara, Ian and Allegro all kids in my class! How lovely!

We came home ate dinner, showered and did the show again, it was a wild ruckus of a night, hippies French kissing Scotty, taking off their clothes with out warning and marriage proposals. A night to be remembered an a night that was recorded, so look forward to some video on August 23 for the Year in Rainbow Finale!

Here’s Indigo and I on the back porch of the Capar Community Center which is actually my old day care!DSC01084

And here is Poni, Little Brooklyn, Miss Indigo Blue and myself being funny backstage!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 360 “Rainbow home again!”

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

July 25, 2008

We woke up at Scotty’s house, jet lagged of course, did a radio show to promote the Mendocino show. Picked up the rental car from this adorable fella!
We (Allison, Scotty and I)Hopped in the car, walking sticks and all!
DSC01077

Went through the rainbow tunnel, which has been my favorite thing since childhood! Here I am so excited to see it!
DSC01079
DSC01080DSC01081

And we drove up to Mendocino, stopping only to eat delicious apple cider Popsicles from Gowans oak tree apple stand! Yum! Drove to my old house that I lived in till I was 15 a thing I do every time I come home, it’s tradition! Dropped Scotty and Allison off at my moms, and went to the Caspar Community Center to set up the theater space and dressing room! Picked up Allison and Scotty and did an awesome sold out show! What a way to start the weekend! It was great to see folks from my class and people I’ve known since I was a small child!

To celebrate we went to the only restaurant that was open after 11pm in town which is a corporate restaurant on the north side of Fort Braggthat starts with a D and ends in an “enny’s” I don’t really like to promote them, but as I arrive with Allison I see a fight break out in the parking lot!  We shoulda stayed in Brooklyn eh!? Turned out the perpetrator was one of my mothers students, ah Fort Bragg!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 359 “Rainbow on a plane with a side of blue!”

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

July 24, 2008

I spent the day packing, except to run over to my friend Anne’s house to grab a digital camera. Yes mine broke on the fourth of July weekend so a new one was in order, and she happened to have an extra for me to borrow and this was the first shot I took . . . as I packed I took this picture! Yeah and then I addressed this picture!
DSC01064

I got all packed, did my hair, and got in a car to the airport. The driver took me off the beaten path through some beautiful parts of Queens, I even saw a horse in a field, how refreshing! Nature here I come! Speaking of nature, here I am getting frisked at security because of all the metal pins in my hair, Allison took this one!
Security rainbow

Allison is also doing a week in color, here she started out in blue!
DSC01073

On our way to baggage claim at SFO we found this colorful pottery!

And we ended up at Scotty the Blue Bunny’s house, how fitting for her first day in blue!

RAINBOW JULY: DAY 358(FO REAL) RAINBOW prep, prep, prep!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

July 23, 2008

I rode to work today, the last ride I’ll take for three weeks(well the last ride I know of, anyone on the west coast have a bike I can borrow?) Anyway as I was riding in this outfit, actually one of my first sewing projects and my very first rainbow creation, it’s funny how rainbows have become my “thing” actually as this year sums up, I do believe that they will continue to be my “thing” they continue to make me happy, in a different way than before, as I do see them everywhere except I STILL haven’t seen a real one, but that may come, HOPEFULLY! Anyway I’m riding to work and I get some “aye mami’s” not sure why as the wide pant legs are all rolled up, so that as I pass my friend Daniel he thinks I’m some old lady, untill I say “it’s me Darlinda!” I ride pass him when I’m going down hill(that’s when I’m fastest.) And he says, you look like some old bag lady . . .ah to each their own I guess!

I came home and  saw my neighbor Beverly, we talked for a while and she said how happy it was to see  me in color and she told me how much she liked to see me in color, how much she liked to wear color. I told her about my project, funny how I’ve lived next door to her since January of 2007 and eight days before the project ends she finds out about it. Anyway she says she’s seeing rainbows when she waters her plants, and all the time in her back yard, ah a real rainbow, how lovely!

It was lovely talking to her! Then I packed all my costumes I was able to get almost everything in to one bag!
